Tantallon Victoria 3 Cresswell Lane 4

Scorers: Keys (2), Reilly.

Subs: Hughes (R.Lewicki)

A game in which… everything thats good about the game at the grass roots level was on display. Fair play and honest endeavor was shown by both sides as they looked to blast the summer cobwebs away and set themselves on the way in the new campaign. Cresswell were took the lead but Tantallon had an almost immediate  reply when Keys picked the ball up in midfield and drove forward smashing a shot from distance that curled wickedly into the far corner of the net. Being a new team still trying to find it’s feet ten or so minutes of losing the shape saw Cresswell gain a two goal advantage firstly through a shot from distance that bounced out of the keepers reach on the admittedly poor park. The visitors third goal of the came about when I clearance from the Tally Vic defence struck the ref bouncing to the feet of a Cresswell attacker leaving the keeper again with no chance. Tantallon were not for lying down though and made it three two with a headed goal by Reilly from a corner and a second goal from outside the box from Keys. A draw would’ve been a fair result but a back pass which held up in the overly lush Cowan Park surface let The Lane pounce for a winner. At this stage of the season it’s about getting a team together and the signs in this match were promising following on from a very tough game against our friends at Windlaw the week previously.

Moment to savour… Scott Keys first goal was a wonder strike and was the best pick of a number of impressive bits of play from the home side.

Head in hands moment… The poor old ref had found himself in a place he didn’t want to be already having got lost on the way to the game so when he was struck by the ball standing on the edge of the D he must have been thinking this just wasn’t his day.

Huntly’s Heros… Every single player could take a number of positives from the game but Scott Keys for his goals and Davie Bonnacorsi for his unbelievable workrate just get the nod for a special mention.

On the sidelines… It’s great to be back in action again and there’s a real buzz about the club. As with Windlaw the week before Cresswell are a team you’d pick up the phone and organise a game against just cos they are good guys to be around. We hope to see them all again soon the next time an opportunity presents itself.
